Butchers

Jackson's butcher shop just across the road is a recommended visit. Here they sell locally reared meat (the name of the farm posted up on a chalk board) and the most delicious pork pies including pork and stilton and pork and apple. There are also a variety of other things on sale too, including meats in sauces, marinated meats for the barbeque, fresh salmon, cheeses, olives and a variety of locally baked breads. Fancy a cooked breakfast but don't want to go to the trouble? Why not try the made to order bacon and egg sandwiches. Lastly before you leave pick up a Whitby Gazette newpaper, it's well worth the purchase. You will find it a great source for discovering what's happing in the area and often find offers for local restaurants and attractions.

Pub

Try out the Bridge Inn, a friendly local pub next to the river Esk where they have hand pumped Yorkshire bitters, guest ales and home cooked food. It's lovely to drop in after a cold winters walk and cosy up in front of the open fire with a glass of red wine, alternatively in summer sit out on the terrace overlooking the river. It's not only reserved for the grown ups either, children are welcome in the family/pool room and on the terrace.

Down near the river

Only a few minutes walk to the bottom of the village and you will reach the river Esk. Here you will find a number of attractions for the whole family. You can hire traditional rowing boats or for the more enthusiastic there are canoes. You also have a crazy golf course, a 9 hole pitch and putt golf course, a miniture steam railway, a cafe and childrens indoor and outdoor play centre.

Train Station

The train from Ruswarp gives access to many of the North Yorkshire moors villages as it winds it's way along the picturesque Esk Valley line connecting Whitby and Middlesborough.

On the same line you will also see the North Yorkshire Moors steam trains as they pass through the village on their way to Whitby or Pickering.
